Does Astrology involve reading my palm?
Nope, I take a look at your natal chart. It’s a snapshot of where the planets were when you were born, an energetic fingerprint that is unique to you. By understanding the placements of the Sun, Moon, and other planets we can understand some of the fundamental energetic themes you will encounter in your life. It shows how you approach life, how you process your emotions, what gives you your drive, and what your sense of humor is like.
Does Astrology take away my free will?
Not at all. You can think of your natal chart like a road map. There are a myriad of different ways to get from point A to point B, but you have the ultimate say in whether you take the highway or back roads, or whether you take your car or a canoe. When I read your chart I can pin point the most direct routes, or the ones that have construction work going on, but you are always in the drivers seat.
It can be incredibly freeing to understand your own energies from an objective, unbiased source. It can help you to master your own road, getting comfortable with all the ups and downs and potholes along the way. In short it helps to make for a much more pleasant trip.
What’s up with newspaper horoscopes?
They are generalized astrological weather forecasts for your Sun sign only. Sun shows who you are at the heart and core of yourself, but not how you are emotionally, how other people perceive you, or what drives you energetically. If you really want to get the most out of those Sun sign columns you should find out what your Ascendant sign is and follow that. Unlike the Sun sign, that changes every 30 days, the Ascendant changes every 2 hours, and is much more personalized. It is the armor we put on to protect our sensitive soul…or Sun, and is an energy that is prevalent in our lives.
Sometimes your Sun sign and Ascendant sign will be the same, and these are the people who swear by their daily horoscopes, even as they haven’t ever had a full natal chart drawn up. Are you going to tell my fortune?
No, but I am going to hold a mirror up for you. Astrology is all about understanding yourself, your motivations, and why you think, act, and behave the way you do. In this way we can put a solid “You are here.” Pin on the map. Without knowing where you are you can’t really plot where you want to be. This is why Astrology works so nicely with Psychology. It gives you a solid baseline to build from.
And it is fortune-telling in the same way that weather forecasting is fortune-telling. I can look at where the planets are and will be and understand the energetic pulls and tendencies you are likely to encounter during any given time with a high degree of accuracy. But that can only tell you that it will rain so to speak, it is up to you to either take an umbrella, or decide to go dance in it. 😉
