WHAT IS EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates the use of bilateral stimulation into therapy. EMDR has helped more than two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.
What IS BRAINSPOTTING?
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms. Brainspotting can be enhanced with Biolateral sound. Brainspotting functions as a neurobiological tool to support the clinical healing relationship. It gives us a tool, within this clinical relationship, to neurobiologically locate, focus, process, and release experiences and symptoms that are typically out of reach of the conscious mind and its cognitive and language capacity. This is accomplished within a nurturing therapeutic presence and trusting relationship where they feel heard, accepted, and understood.
Brainspotting works with the deep brain and the body through its direct access to the autonomic and limbic systems within the body’s central nervous system. It is theorized that Brainspotting taps into and harnesses the body’s innate self-scanning capacity to process and release focused areas (systems) which are in a maladaptive homeostasis (frozen primitive survival modes). This may also explain the ability of Brainspotting to often reduce and eliminate body pain and tension associated with physical conditions.
WHAT IS TF-CBT?
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers.
- TF-CBT is a conjoint child and parent psychotherapy approach for children and adolescents who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events.
- It is a components-based treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions with cognitive behavioral, family, and humanistic principles and techniques.

WHO DOES EMDR and BRAINSPOTTING TREAT?
EMDR can be effective for anyone whose life has been impacted by a traumatic event. We work with teens and adults whose traumatic experiences are preventing them from living the life they want. Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for post traumatic stress. However, clinicians also have reported success using EMDR in treatment of the following conditions:
- Panic Attacks
- Complicated Grief
- Disturbing Memories
- Phobias
- Pain Disorders
- Eating Disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia)
- Performance Anxiety
- Stress Reduction
- Addictions
- Sexual and/or Physical Abuse
HOW DOES EMDR WORK?
EMDR seems to have a direct effect on the way that the brain processes information. Following a successful EMDR session, a person no longer relives the images, sounds, and feelings of the traumatic experience. You still remember what happened, but it is much less upsetting. Many types of therapy have similar goals. However, EMDR appears to be similar to what occurs naturally during dreaming or REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Therefore, EMDR can be thought of as a physiologically-based therapy that helps a person see disturbing material in a new and less distressing way.
