Just what is a natal chart anyway? This is a common and completely understandable question I get asked here at Cardinal Point so if you’ve been curious please continue reading or come sit with me for a few minutes and I’ll take away some of the mystery for you.
The above chart is a natal chart. It is a snapshot of where the planets were around Earth at the moment you were born. Each of these symbols represents a different archetypal theme that resides, to one degree or another, within each of us. When added all together they form you, your way of looking at the world, and the energetic themes you are likely to both encounter and resonate with throughout your life.
The chart is divided into 12 equal sections (shown above), each one representing a different zodiac sign. Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. You may be familiar with what your Sun Sign is, that is the section of the sky where the Sun was when you were born. Your Sun Sign is extremely important but only one piece of a much larger puzzle.
Your chart is then further divided (as seen above), depending on the time of your birth, into 12 more sections called Houses that interlock over the Signs and add more depth. For example, the 1st House represents your physical body and how others see you, the 4th House indicates your home and family, the 7th your significant other and how you relate to people, and the 10th your career and place in the world.Within these Signs and Houses are the Planets which add the final layer (see planetary symbols). The Sun signifies your ego, Venus what you love and value, the Moon how you react emotionally and so on.
The full picture of you comes together when you merge all of these elements together. The Sun in Virgo in the 3rd House or Venus in Gemini in the 8th House. The interpretation of all of this merging is what I do, and the accuracy in getting to the essence of people with this information is uncanny.
Stay tuned for my next post where I will bring this all into focus by looking at the chart of a famous celebrity. In the meantime I welcome your comments and questions and I hope this brought some clarity to what a natal chart is.
Until then, live authentically.
